I had no idea when I was there last that he would be, or already was, the last male on the reserve. My last day there we finally found him.
Rough life, indeed!

Hi all. Our questions as to who was doing so much roaring from the NW parts of the reserve was finally answered. It seems our male lion, Matswane, found himself a new lady - one which nobody was aware off. A stunning adult lioness, although a little shy towards vehicles, was seen with the male and after spending some time together I was fortunate enough to see them mating. Matswane might be the only adult male around, for now, but he is doing everything in his power to increase the lion population of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve... hard life wouldn't you agree?

Great update Andrei - thanks! With regards to the reports you received of lion roaring in the NW part of the reserve, do you suspect they may be "new" lion wondering into the Tuli Game Reserve from Zimbabwe?
